- A comprehensive and up-to-date resource for school staff and health promotion professionals to assist in implementing a whole school approach. It includes case studies.
What is a health promoting school? (2011 edition)
- The 2011 edition is still a great example of what can be achieved in the school setting when the whole community works together. It includes 10 case studies.
Making every school a health-promoting school – Global standards and Indicators (WHO 2021)
- This publication is based on an extensive review of health –promoting school policies, strategies and guidelines from 91 countries in various regions and on expert and public consultations with education and health sector policy-makers, practitioners and researchers around the world.
Making every school a health-promoting school – Implementation Guidance (WHO 2021)
- This publication is based on an extensive review of global evidence on the barriers to and enablers of implementation, maintenance and scaling-up of the health –promoting school approach. It aims to guide adaptation and implementation of the global standards for HPS.
Engaging guest speakers for sensitive topics
- Students deserve access to health education that is accurate, credible, age and developmentally appropriate, evidence-based and supportive. Trained health education teachers, supplemented by speakers from health promotion agencies that have quality, well-researched, evidence-based programs, can create supportive learning environments.
- This tool is designed to help assess your school environment and how it supports participation in healthy eating, mental health and wellbeing, physical activity and sun safety, and to identify areas that could be improved to encourage healthier behaviour. The audit can be adapted to address other health priority areas including tobacco control, safe environments, sexual health and wellbeing, alcohol and other drug use. etc.
- The audit is based on the principles of a Health Promoting School.
- An action plan for a whole school approach to health is a proactive step toward creating a safe, supportive and thriving environment for students, staff and the broader school community. Just like academic performance is regularly assessed, the physical and emotional wellbeing of a school community should also be evaluated to ensure that every student has the best chance to succeed.
